The Barn feeds the hungry

One of our best meals in Sri Lanka.

Ella, a small town in eastern Sri Lanka, is a hill station, sitting about 1050 ft above sea level. It took some winding roads and hair-pin bends to get to her land and we went for it anyway; after all, it boasts of some of the most visited sites in the island nation. And when we were done with the Nine Arch Bridge and Ravana Falls, and fell deep into the hands of hunger, we found ‘The Barn by Starbeans.’

In the main market area which was bustling with tourists and locals alike, melodious artists crooning alongside amateur karaoke attempts, and aromas of indigenous cuisine blissfully wafting and settling in warm rendezvous with global palette, we stopped by this restaurant. And we never moved.

Warm and vibrant vibes, with live music, wonderful staff and awesome food. We sampled various soups, rotti kottu and spring rolls which were all yum! The strawberry and white chocolate cheesecake was the decadent conclusion to our meal (on day 1). The vacation gluttony pushed us just a tad further and we dig into their homemade ice creams too! Sumptuous.

The Irish Coffee was a delight in particular which I enjoyed, one sip at a time. While we didn’t sample other liquor, the occupied tables and constantly incoming guests meant they served well. On day 2 though, we went for their pizzas. And they were? Muuaaah! ❤️ Made fresh in wood brick oven, they exuded flavors that melted in our mouth, without compromising on the toppings which were again, fresh and crunchy.

The staff is lovely. Amiable, attentive and served with a smile.

We went twice in 2 days and absolutely enjoyed the hospitality. ⭐️

The Barn by Starbeans is highly recommended.
